Tiles versus stone- what is better for your bedroom flooring?

The floor of a room or for that matter the complete house lends character to the place. Flooring is also important in view of the fact that it is the base on which you walk day in and day out. And the base should always be comfortable to the feet. Now, most homeowners fall in the quintessential dilemma when selecting floor for their bedrooms- is a vitrified tile better or should they go for stone?

Let’s compare the two and understand what suits a bedroom flooring the best.

Variety- There is a lot of variety available when it comes to tiles. They come in different colours and designs which gives the homeowners a wide variety of choice. Such variety is not available when it comes to stones. Stones are primarily available in three varieties only- marble, granite and limestone. Thus, tiles take the edge when it comes to variety.

Price- Here too, tiles take the edge. They are available in different styles and textures and they are priced very nominally indeed. At the same time, stones, because they are extracted from nature after plenty of hard work, are much more expensive than tiles. But then again, it is about value proposition, which we will come to later.

Durability- This is perhaps the most controversial comparison when it comes to tiles and stones for flooring. According to us, it depends on the quality chosen. It is said that tiles crack very easily. But, we beg to differ. If you pick the right quality of tiles, they are very strong and durable. For example- the vitrified/porcelain tiles.

Coming to stones, it is said that they are very durable. And that’s true. However, it has been seen that small indents appear in stone over a course of time. But then again, they do not appear in every stone. Choose the right quality and you shall never repent. While going for stone flooring, always go for calcium based stones which are extracted from beneath the earth, rather than iron based stones which are extracted from the hills. Conclusion- tiles and stones stand equal here, subject to the quality chosen.

Installation- Here, tiles definitely have an edge over stone. Installing tiles takes not more than a couple of hours since they just need to be glued together. On the other hand, stone require a lot of cutting and finishing before being placed. Stone installation usually takes about a couple of days, if done properly.

Now, going by the above information, tiles definitely have an edge over stones in more than one department when it comes to bedroom flooring. And personally, we prefer tiles too. However, it all boils down to your personal choice. Both of them have their good points and bad points. But the most important factor that counts is selecting the right quality, whether it’s stones or tiles. Select the right quality and match the flooring with the look of the room and you shall be happy for life.

Why modular kitchen?

That’s the question homeowners ask when it comes to the kitchen of their house. They are perplexed because according to them, there’s no big difference between a traditional kitchen and a modular kitchen. And they are wrong. There are many differences between modular kitchen and traditional kitchen which make modular kitchens a preferred choice among modern homeowners.

Let’s look at why should you opt for modular kitchen.

Easy to maintain- The name modular kitchen is so because it is made up of different modules. Hence, if one part of the kitchen is broken, it does not affect the other parts or modules. Only the module affected needs to be replaced which makes it easy to maintain and repair. Such a thing is not possible in a traditional kitchen.

Another aspect which makes modular kitchen easy to maintain is the material used. Instead of wooden planks used in traditional kitchen, modular kitchen is made using stain free laminate boards which are very easy to clean and maintain.

Easy to shift- Modular kitchen can also be shifted easily, in case you are moving to a new residence. Since there are modules which are fitted separately, they can be taken out individually and fitted into a new kitchen. For a traditional kitchen, shifting is not possible, since it is made of one single block and the parts cannot be taken out.

Clutter free- This is another advantage of a modular kitchen. There are well defined areas for every accessory and activity in the kitchen, which gives the housewife plenty to space to work around. On the other hand, in a traditional kitchen, the space is often restricted and there’s a lot of clutter around.

Chic and stylish- a modular kitchen is also aesthetically appealing. It comes in a variety of colours, shapes and styles, giving your home a modern look. However, there are limited options when it comes to traditional kitchen, usually restricted to black or grey stone.

Now, you must have understood the benefits of a modular kitchen. However, to get the most out of your modular kitchen, you must opt for the latest trend. Here are some current styles in modular kitchen which could help you design your cooking space:

Straight, simple and clean lines- that’s the hottest trend in modular kitchens right now. The curves and the ornate furnishings are out. The simple and elegant look gives your kitchen a classy look.

Contrasting colours- This is another trend for modular kitchens these days. Rather than going for a single tone kitchen, create a contrast by using dark tones for the slab and light tones to the shelves and the cupboards.

Glass- Another trend in modular kitchens that’s slowly catching on is the use of glass in doors and cabinets. Although glass is a tad expensive, it helps create a different yet elegant looking kitchen.

Research well on the style and trends of modular kitchen available before you decide to build one. After all, aesthetics are as important as the functionality.
